The medieval village of Ficulle presents itself as a homogeneous monument with the ancient walls, the two fortresses defending the town, the numerous churches, the streets and squares and the oldest center of Castel Maggiore.
In fact, around the end of the 13th century, Ficulle was a well-formed castle with military and administrative supremacy over the entire surrounding territory.
The defensive wall of the castle consisted of a circle of walls, still clearly visible in the eastern part, along which several watchtowers and defence towers appear to have been located.
Of these, only two fortresses that guarded the entrance gates of the town have survived. The one located to the south is par excellence the Rocca di Ficulle, an element of great architectural impact, which over time has become the emblem of the town.
In the territory of Ficulle there are many testimonies of its medieval past with fortresses and castles that preserve the charm and original architectural beauty, declining in the landscape to create pictures of strong visual and emotional impact.
